The Kingdom Of Dogs (24) Poem by Freeyad Ibrahim

The Kingdom Of Dogs (24)

by Freeyad Ibrahim

A soft, mellow blonde girl, splendor
She stands in front of her house,
No wonder
Miserable and sad, shedding tears,
Burning like an ember
I stood away under the shade of a tree
And pretended not to notice, somber
No one sheds tears except for the loss of the closest relatives, from fullness not hunger
I heard her say to her neighbor who came out to console her, rushing, getting up out a slumber
It's Nunu, she said, fainted, gasping like a running hunter
She died of an incurable disease, o my god
I spent a fortune to save her, remember
I said to myself, may God have mercy on her,
Nunu might be her sister or mother
I was sad, and I shed tears
I almost left the site, hanging my head
In relapse, wanted to dash away like a thunder
Then I saw her above my eyelashes and under
She took out trembling a large picture and showed it to her wretchedly unhappy neighbor
When her neighbor left and passed by me,
I asked her, shocked, curious about the kind of disaster,
‘Her dog has died, ' she said bitterly in answer
Wiping away my tears, I immediately forgot my worries,
Weeping, silently, for the poor, their livelihood, they painfully suffer

At that moment, another distant image from the past appeared before me
I remembered the bullet that killed a dog,
Before me
If I had the power, I would have prevented killing an animal, animals must live free
But you have to put the animal in its rightful place, and not raise it to the level of human beings
Like Mr. President, his ministers, like you and me,
None of those around the murdered dog cried for him
Rather, they said, "Praise be to God."
We got rid of impurity and danger!

To most people who have pets, dogs are like family. A death of one is like losing a family member.
