The Last Day Poem by Khadim Hussain

The Last Day

Prayers unanswered,
Hopes shattered,
Blown away
Like autumn leafs,
Dreams of Premiership football
In tatters.

I’ve thrown away
Team shirt,
Ripped the posters and photos
Of one time heroes.

The prima donnas,
With bigger egos
Than their wages,
My 75 year old granny
Could have done better.

Shadows of Championship football lengthen
I’ll never again throw away
My hard earned money,
Never again.
