The Leopard And The Mouse Poem by David Harris

The Leopard And The Mouse

Rating: 5.0

Scraps of meat were thrown
into the leopard's enclosure
at the Santago Rare Leopard Project
and as Sheena went for her lunch,
a cheeky little mouse appeared
and started feasting away.
Sheena looked at the intruder,
sniffed him and tried
to nudge him away with her nose,
but the mouse took no notice
and kept chewing away.
Sheena just watched him
as at her lunch he nibbled away
making no effort to have him for her lunch.
When the mouse was full,
he just scuttled away
leaving this big cat
filled with dismay.

Author’s Note:
What I have written is not fiction, but actually happened at the Santago Rare Leopard Project in Hertfordshire, England. A student caught the whole thing on camera and a friend sent a copy of them to me. The sight was so extraordinary I decided to write a poem about it and share the event with you.

Not bad David, but this reads more like an article in a kids newspaper rather than a poem. lines like cheeky little mouse, filled with dismay... if this is aimed at kids then its not to bad, but as mentioned, for me, it is less a poem, more an excerpt from a paper
