The Lightning-Bolt Poem by Gert Strydom

The Lightning-Bolt

(for Annelize, after Charl-Pierre Naude)

Just as lightning that falls blue-white
before moments later it roars

a person gets about extreme happiness an impression,
even the smell of wet ground can jerk you back

to exactly how the moment was,
how wonderful you and I fit into each other.

A sharp mind can bring a moment back
but that séance becomes a brainwave

of further moments that can come.
Constantly you do leave me speechless.

Like a living moving drawing
you are burnt into my mind, soul and spirit,

just as that intense blue-white light that comes down,
in my inner-eye en sub-consciousness the lightning-bolt.
