The Man Trapped In A Painting Poem by Paula Glynn

The Man Trapped In A Painting

A painting created 100 years ago by a powerful witch
A demon locked inside the devilishly detailed canvas
Where flames and blades block his exit
To the grimy and dusty window hoping to write his name
The trapped room in an ancient castle blocking his path.

The demon having to stay lonely and abandoned
In a dated and dusty backroom library
But a library with no books to enjoy
A castle where there is no escape
A castle where there is no one to help.

Never being able to rest or sleep
He runs from the old library
Into the drawing room full of traps
No light of the moon shining through the window
To provide reality in a fictional painting.

And the painting does go from owner to owner
All surprised to imagine seeing a man
In the window of the ancient castle
The darkness of the painting alive almost
Its strange effect on people felt everywhere.

But one-day the painting was set on fire
The demon perishing within its tormented castle
The demon having spent 100 years alone
The witch that conjured him into it
Knowing from beyond justice was achieved.

A horrible fate, but perhaps well-deserved.
