The Mark Of A Man Poem by Francis Duggan

The Mark Of A Man

His friends influence his ideas on manhood you are allowed to laugh but not to weep
And over the love of a female you are not supposed to lose sleep
In the pub with his mates Don and Tony and Danny and Peter and Stan
Their conversation leads to one subject on what is the mark of a man? .

You must not talk to homosexuals for on you that will cast a doubt
And all of your friends must be straight heterosexuals for that's what manhood is about
Real men only attracted to women and to homosexuals we don't even speak
Why should we belittle our manhood and by others be looked on as weak? .

According to his mates a true man can be gauged even by the game that he play
And the grown man who likes to play marbles in an asylum should be locked away
For 'tis seen as a sign of mental impairment in the World of
masculine men
For a grown man to seem to act childish or to display his child within

A true man will stand by his cronies and with them always drink for drink
And never show all of his feelings that's what this masculine man think
In the pub they've come to the conclusion himself, Don, Danny, Tony, Peter and Stan
That only the toughest of he men can lay claim to the mark of a man.
