The Mind Poem by Mallika Achuthan Menon

The Mind

Faster than wind
none can see it.
It can become muslin soft
Or it may harden as diamond.
Amusing muses
take birth from there
in glee or gloom off and on.
Thus sorrows, glories
regrets, miseries
painted it with
black and white.
When it is filled with
love and peace,
it sheds rays of rainbow shades.
There in its alcoves
hid hatred, envy.
Both get surfaced
when their turns come.
It can contain
tons of spite and
there thrives at times
vengeance too.
Sacks of secrets
lay there safely,
even without lock and key!
So many desires
stick in it,
no need of glue
to fix them there.
Dreams bloom from it's depth
An outcome of all
unfulfilled wishes.
Hopes pop up
from its loops,
where the life
likes to live.
Not few but many
memories can be
stacked there neatly
one after one.
They can bounce
and spin like tops
to the top of
our own consciousness
when we just think of them.
Emotions oscillate
in its obscure secret pathways
from wall to wall invariably.
Feelings hippety- hop around
on its surface round the clock.
This unfathomable enigma can be
put in word as human mind!

You have richly described the various facets of the mind. I liked in particular this line: Amusing muse take birth from there.. Thanks for sharing and keep it on.

The Mind something we do not understand, full of contradictions and complexities. You have described it in a very poetic and brilliant way. Thank you for sharing this poem.

FASTER THAN THE WIND/NONE CAN SEE IT. This strikes me as the key line in your poetic evocation of the mind. You are writing poetically about it, not scientifically. So you portray the mind as a disembodied entity, not so much inside a body as shaping the environment around a body. And the mind as you describe is NOT limited to the brain, that heavy lump of neurons and whatever that is encased inside the head. No, the mind is not confined, it's mercurial and independent. It moves everywhere but it serves the human being. It's never the Prodigal Son in your account.

Mind is faster than light year. True love precipitates in the inner soul not in the surface. It will surely reflect in eyes - thanks for sharing
