The Old Man And The Heart Of The Sea Poem by Benjamin Chiu Uy

The Old Man And The Heart Of The Sea

The Old Man And The Heart Of The Sea

The old man was once with the sea and the old sea,
was once with this fisherman,

Both were ancient, in their own ways the man with a face of rugged earth and knarled tree barks with the many mapscurved of his tenures.

The immemorial sea was there before men,
It was existing forever and age did'nt seemed to affect its zeals for life.

It hadclaimed the million of drown sailors from sea battles.
Into its folds, men had taken their own life by embracing its wildcurrents,

And sinking, sank to its deepest bottoms of a hundred thousand leagues,
Are the graveyards of bones and the sunken treasures of wrecked ships.

So when the old man tied himself with heavy stone and set out on his last journey on a small fishing boat,
He took his last leapt into its dark currents,

The sky was solemn grey that day
And the currents, as if in a final acquisition and acceptance, accepted this favorite son,

As far as the old man had remembered,
he had been to many borders beyond the home ports,
Beyond the many tongues and language of men and become a life and a world philosoper.
He had seen the many different faces of young peoples,
Especially the beautiful girls,

The fancy wind would never have considered the old sailor but the sea took him kindly into their bossoms,
Folding him gently, craddle like,
Into itstempest laden heart,

They understand this weary, solitary soul,
And accepted him gladly like a distant kin.
For a life well spent.
