The Overlooked Power Of The Late, Late Show Poem by Raj Dronamraju

The Overlooked Power Of The Late, Late Show

It was a very old movie
The kind that is only shown between the hours of midnight and three in the morning
It was the kind of movie where the villain is clearly identifiable
The villain moves likes he's just getting through this; like he knows how this is going to end

Please tell me how they re-discovered you
Those with free ride college educations and a lot of free time
Think of separating themselves from your average hipster
For their latest trick, they speak in German

My youthful self stands up to present day thought
Me as seeker of new things becomes the cardboard cutout villain in their eyes
But I refuse to be the cardboard cutout villain
I'll support a literacy campaign over pop culture gang identification

All my books are lonely
Since the family started taking their meals around the color television set
We strive for images, we replace our addiction to the word with something worse
