The Peach Poem by Linda Hepner

The Peach

Rating: 5.0

And there we placed the peach,
And does it sit there still?
And has it taken root
Upon the window sill?

Does Venice, drowning, have
A peach tree locals say:
'Two lovers were here once
And here their fruit did lay.

And there they kissed and there
They lay and now they're gone,
Who knows if they still live?
If daughters or a son

Come by will they inquire
'We heard there was a peach
Upon a window sill',
But then they'll hear us teach

Our children this sweet song:
'Baciami, mi tesoro,
La vita troppo breve! '
Yet we shall never know

If they took root and gave
The world a lovely tree.'

But we will hear our fruit
Say, 'It took root! That's me! '
