The Perfect Stranger Poem by Paula Glynn

The Perfect Stranger

From the perfect stranger
To the perfect acquaintance
To the perfect friend
To the perfect partner
To the perfect lover
Until the day you struck me

I thought we were beyond strangers
I thought we were beyond acquaintances
I thought we were beyond friends
I thought we were beyond partners
I thought we were beyond lovers
I thought we were soulmates

Days filled with endless tears
Days filled with endless fears
Days filled with torturous bruises
Days filled with threats and abuse
Your inner rage knowing no bounds
Your violent temper frightening

I try to leave you and this house behind
I try to pack my bags
And leave this sorrowful town
But false hope trapped me
False hope twisted us both
Both of us suffering this waste of time relationship

But now I have met someone new
He is fabulous and gorgeous
He treats me with affection and respect
He worships my special body
And doesn't torture me with his fists
He never leaves me drowning in tears

So goodbye my old stranger
We never really knew each other
And I'd never go back in time
You tricked me at first
You manipulated me in clever ways
But now I am wise and know I am not haunted.
