The Rain Came Today. Poem by Glenn Ford

The Rain Came Today.

Rating: 5.0

The rain came today without warning, it soaked me through to the bone
Like the message I received about you and me left on the answer phone
The sky is grey in this month of May and the sun will not shine anymore
I am alone in this dreary old home, loveless and all on my own.

Why you left you didn't make clear you said you loved me but just had to go
I am confused and feel somewhat bemused, there's so much I'd still like to know
Days will be long, now that you have gone, nothing will feel quite the same
I'm under a cloud in my everyday world reality plays out like a game.

Perhaps it was me, in that I didn't see, that your feelings for me had run dry
Too busy and focused that I did not notice what was right in front of my eyes
You have gone now and I can't see how I will make it through. no way
All that remains is the guilt and the pain, and what's more the rain came today.
