The Right To Breathe The Oxygen In The Air Poem by Daya Nandan

The Right To Breathe The Oxygen In The Air

We are children of god born under the deep blue skies,
Given both functional ears and functional eyes,
The one thing that sets us apart is our knowledge and mind,
Not the colours of my skin that you discriminate and find,

Just because your colour seems to be the majority,
You abuse others the ones you call minority,
You mock us with a held up chin,
Insulting our ways with your evil little grin,

You judge us humans by the colours of our face,
Taking our rights because of our religion and our race,
You discriminate humans have you no shame?
Do you think the life of others is just a game?

Don’t you know there is more to me than my skin?
Don’t you realize discriminating can be a deadly sin?
Who are you to judge me? You think you are God above?
Because God is divine and doesn’t discriminate love,

So tell me who are you to try and hold me down?
Do you think you rule this world with a golden crown?
You think you are superior with your ways you racist?
Your delusional thoughts surrounded by a self made mist,

Earth is a land in the universe, the universe’s special town,
Be it any man be him black, yellow, white, beige or brown,
Every man has the right to stand and breathe on mother Earth’s ground,
For free will is a gift in all humans that in their hearts can be found,

There is a reason they say that love is blind,
Because it is not from our skin but an individual’s heart and mind,
Just as love is blind and cannot see,
Every man can love anybody, love is meant to be,

Just as they say that beauty is only skin deep,
When racism stops, our hatred and fears can finally sleep,
So, stop mocking people from various walks of life,
Stop looking at them like criminals having a concealed knife,

Stop hating as hating only gives rise to more hate,
And never will the rage of this world begin to abate,
We will always be shrouded in chaos and darkness,
And slowly the light will fade and begin will an age of blackness,

Stop hurting others, just stop being a racist,
And others can stop hating you and clenching their fist,
Everyone is special and unique the way they are,
Just as everyone that lives in the universe is a shining star,

Just as the universe is blanketed with stars all so bright,
Every man and woman on mother Earth have the right,
To be treated equally and just as others be given a fair chance,
Have fair education and have the chance to experience love and romance,

Our faces, skin colour, religion might be different even our given name,
But as different as we are on the outside, our essence is the same,
All of us live on the same planet of God and deserve to be treated fair,
Just as every man has the right to breathe the oxygen in the air,

So, please open your eyes and stop your evil and such ignorant ways,
Only then will we unite and bring the light of success to our days,
Then will they bless us the angels and god above,
When racism stops the world can finally embrace the power of love,
