Freedom is a spiritual thing.
It is a sacred and religious reality.
It's roots are not in man but in God.
For man's freedom,
which makes him
the image of God,
is a participation
in the freedom of God.
Man is free insofar
as he is like God.
His struggle for freedom
means, then, a struggle
to renounce a false,
illusory autonomy,
in order to become
free beyond and
above himself.
