The Sign Said 'do Not Feed The Animals' But She Fed The Animals Poem by Raj Dronamraju

The Sign Said 'do Not Feed The Animals' But She Fed The Animals

You should know better than to flirt with me
I'm a caged animal
All the blame is on the curious onlooker who opened the door when no one was looking
Who fed growling instinct through the bars of its cage

When you got in my car at my invitation (which I didn't expect you to accept)
And I'm shaky like an addict trapped by old temptations
A polite invitation - it crushes resolve, it builds desire, but it should be the other way round

The sign said "Don't feed the animals"
But her feverish lipstick screamed "Toro" at a pacing keyed up bull
She bought a bag of peanuts and tossed their contents at imprisoned libidos

Hot to trot lies by those who would never be mistaken for a danger
Who would receive only a polite smile
Who would pay for their ticket and not warrant a second thought

Their place is too genteel for one who comes from concrete forests
Feeds his nature without the embedding of impulse inhibitors
Waits for the lady who read too many magazines to stumble over a retaining wall

And then they'll push him back with sticks and nets
They'll try to drag her out, they'll play the role of rescuer
But more often than not she won't want to be rescued
