The Singer Poem by Dorsey Baker

The Singer

After years of too much smoking
After years of too much drinking
When it comes to
Singing a song
The singer ain't what he used to be

He is showing the effects
Showing signs of
Much too much neglect
His voice is broken
Just like a piece of glass
No longer first class
He barely gets by
But he is going to
Go up on stage and
Give it another try

But the years have
Taken their toll
Hard to admit it
But he has gotten old
Because of his age
The truth be has to face
When it comes to
Singing a song
The singer
Just ain't what he used to be
