I have a world of daffodils
I must plant in a garden 4-by-6 meters
they'll come soon after
the snowdrop descends
but in-the-in-between time
purple and white striped crocus will call
with blue grape hyacinths
later on, they'll be followed by tall ranks
of sturdy tulips beside a red brick wall.
And Candelabra primula will poke through
forget-me-nots while others around continue to free-fall.
And later still 'Casa Blanca' lilies will frolic
with bees amongst a mix of scented roses
and snowy Canterbury bells.
I have a garden 4-by-6 meters
but in all these flowers, it isn't small at all
especially when Angelica stands
4 to 6 feet tall above the cobalt
Michaelmas daisies that haven't yet met their autumnal call.
But just when you think it's all over
a single pink Nerine will shine like an evening star.
And I'll sleep and dream of daffodils
in another galaxy, that's not nearly now so far.
