The Steps Of A Dad Poem by Colette Dright

The Steps Of A Dad

There are no instructions on being a father
No matter what is written in a book
You have to be there and experience it
One step was all it took

When our father stepped out and left us alone
You stepped in and made our house a home
You came into our life and became our dad
And gave us something we never had

You are easy to talk to, you know what to say
You stepped up and was there when the other walked away
When we need male guidance and a little correction
You are there to provide us with love and direction

We thank you for showing how much you care
And for always being more than fair
When things are right and even when wrong
We're glad we have you to lean on

The difference you have made and what you did
By watching us grow from being a kid
Has left a positive influence in our life
You married our mom and made her your wife

One step at a time was how it was done
Our family is complete, for we now are one

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Written for my best friend during the time of her transitioning from being a single mom to becoming a wife and for having a strong, positive male figure who stepped in and helped raise her two small kids whom are now grown adults and for showing her that there are still "a few good men."

Shout out to all the Stepdads, especially to those who may not be with their children's mother, but can still take care of theirs and
step in to care for someone elses.
