The Struggle - Poem by Samuel Currie

The struggle to be the dominant one continues, the cold brings its final assault to regain control of the earth. Attacks of sleet, snow, wind, and rain pelt the earth. It's not enough to break the outer defenses. The cores warmth blocks every attack, the ground melts the snow, the trees fight the wind. The dirt shifts it shape to take on the the rain. The battle is fierce but the hopes of winter are dying, the attacks slow and lose their force. The war cry of the wind turns to a meager wine. Order is restored, the thaw continues on its course. It's the calm after the storm that brings comfort.
