The Sun Will Not Go Down! Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

The Sun Will Not Go Down!

A young boy had the desire to keep on playing
As flashing fireflies began to blink in code
He shouted, 'The sun will not go down…it’s staying
Throw the ball…while I’m in a batting mode…'

The pitched ball flew by…close to his head
He heard it whizzed by…as he swung the bat
'One more swing to get a run…' is what he said
The ball was lost in the dimness…now that’s that

Reluctantly the child agreed…the day was done
Time fades…even when the wanting goes on
Tomorrow there’ll be chances to hit a homerun
After the dawn reveals where the ball has gone
