The Tale Of The Archangel Painter Poem by Paula Glynn

The Tale Of The Archangel Painter

Sitting in his art class top of the class
He did paint many heartfelt canvases
Canvases of a vast world he longed to explore
Like the city neon lights of red, yellow, blue and green at night
Like the red, orange and yellow sunset on exotic beaches
Like delicious food to taste and fruity drinks to enjoy.

Instead he sat in his art class day after day
No one knowing he cannot leave
In his paintings the greatest did believe
His brushstrokes genius and precise
But to the ways of the world he was naive
Yet in his colourful art he did believe.

A young woman of the 1990's he did meet
They locked eyes and fell in love
But she wanted him outside of art class
To explore the mysterious world with him
And show the world his unique and charismatic artwork:
Artwork he was intensely private about.

But he reluctantly capitulated and left art class
Requesting God turn him back into a mortal
Giving up his destined Archangel wings
Learning to love life with all it brings
To see the bees and butterflies in the spring
Once having been an Archangel that joyfully sings.

To enjoy wandering around the busy Paris city streets
Where interesting strangers he would happily meet
Talking about his art and his productive life in his art class
Friendly strangers with much to kindly and curiously ask
The painter describing the rich colours of his canvases
And what each colour represents and emotionally expresses.

But he lost his artwork and his motivation
When his girlfriend wanted him to have a promotion
And make millions from his genius paintings
But he wouldn't paint anymore: he lost hope
A young woman becoming sick and tired
His never-ending depression ruining everything.

Knowing it over he did return to art class
And this time did ask God to return his soul to heaven
Where he could be at peace and pain release
Perhaps being human no mean feat
For the Archangel painter is back in heaven above
The world viewing his paintings with deep love.
