The Things We Have To Do

HE THINGS WE HAVE TO DO
such a beautiful opalescence touched the sky
and I was listening to Debussy and trying not to cry
that the beauty mirrored in the sky
the beauty in the music too
were living in a world apart
from the things we have to do
we have to do.
such a beautiful opalescence touched the trees
they sounded like aeolian harps when the wind breathed
but I was crying in the wind that there is no use to pretend
that the beauty mirrored in the trees
and in the breezes too
werent living in a world apart
from the things we have to do
we have to do
such a beautiful opalescence touched the day
and now its dusk and everything's going away
and I say my prayers like a long lost orphan stray
and weep again at the thing that I must say
that the beauty mirrored all around
could be leaving earth without a sound
and it's so true
we were living in a world apart
from the things we had to do
we had to do.
