The Third World War Poem by Khaleeq Ahmad

The Third World War

Third World War

Yes! This is The Third World War in Twenty Twenty!
Millions affected, thousands dead, Though it's
Not fought on a battlefield,
Not with heavy armours on,
Not over economy or history,
Not for petrol, water or some geographical territory,
Over ethnicity or language;

Yes! This time, it's
Not fought with
Fighter jets,
Atom bombs,
Chemical weapons,
Guns, missiles or ammunition.

The first time, ever,
Not fought amongst humans,
Not fought against humanity! Men not butchering men!

It's fought for humanity,
Saving souls,
With masks, gloves & protecting plastic armours.
It's fought in the hospitals,
In ICUs, with ventilators, with surgeon's knives, with tablets & injections.

It's in the streets, and
Not in parliaments, courts or war-rooms.

No military involved, Doctors are the soldiers, nurses are the fighters,
We all are the troops.

All eight billion together
Not against each other, but standing for each other,
All religions, races, creeds, countries hand in hand, up in arms
Targeting the enemy from our drawing rooms, living rooms, even bed rooms, Fighting against Time,
Against the enemy of humanity,
Against that tiny foe, That unseen particle.

Yes, This The Third World War! ©K
