The Threshold Poem by Solomon Ramakgwa

The Threshold

The threshold
World we live out,
World we can't live in.
I wonder why we can't live in,
Because outside is where the rain, storm, and wind
Belong.
Still, we live outside.
Oh Lord, why outside?
Oh Lord, why not inside?
The answer comes from nowhere.
They say outside is where the light is,
But inside the cave is where the darkness
Reveals
...the truth we've been hiding from the sun.
We seek the shelter of the stone,
Afraid of what the brightness might become
If we ever faced the world alone.
But shadows dance upon the walls,
Whispering secrets of the deep,
Until the silence of the cavern calls
To the promises we meant to keep.
