The Trap Of My Nafs Poem by Mohammad Younus

The Trap Of My Nafs

Into the trap of my vile nafs, unknowingly I fell
Seduced by the magic of its beguiling voice.
How easily I paved its path with my ignorance,
Surrendering my soul to its fleeting embrace.

I sought solace in serpents disguised as saviors,
Entangled in the venom of my own desires.
I wish I had seen its whispers for what they were—
False beliefs and illusions hard to erase,
Carving scars deep into my tender heart,
Lingering like an endless ache, unyielding.

Oh, how I long to smile without its shadow near,
To breathe freely, unburdened by love's cost.
I crave the peace that lies beyond its grasp,
A freedom untangled from this silent pain.

Yet, I know these wishes are not in vain,
For Reality—the eternal truth—calls me back.
Its light pierces through the fog of my delusion,
Dispelling the spell of the nafs's deceit.

Now, I see the nafs for what it is:
A fleeting shadow, not my true essence.
The fire it stoked within me is now subdued,
Replaced by a stillness that anchors my soul.

And so, I rise, no longer enslaved,
Walking toward the light of divine grace.
The pain, though lingering, begins to fade,
As Reality pulls me home again.
