The Twelve Point Three Trillion Empire Of Debt Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

The Twelve Point Three Trillion Empire Of Debt

Counting the costs of expenditures
In horrifying dollar ligatures
Binds and ties its citizenry
Those yet unborn forced to face that duty.

Twelve point three in trillion woes
The national debt of America goes
Increasing billions at three point five
The payment of which they won't ever survive.

What enormous empire has been built!
An inverted triangle of prosperity's wilt
Decay of progress laid waste in war
Stuns all of the world with a financial scar.

Dark History showed the pattern was written
Devastation of the nation's wealth carries on
From its stubborn conflicts and vague directions
To its stupendous spending on war and weapons.

Its neighbors all focused on commerce and trade
While the nation diverted on its war tirades
Pursuing its enemies from all over and far
In decades of fighting in an eternal war.

Update: As of last report - the debt has risen to 14 trillion $.
