The Usher ~ The Theatre Poem by Aphrodite Anastasia Menegaki

The Usher ~ The Theatre

One by one let the chandeliers glow bright
Red velvet seats and ceilings painted in gold
Everything must be perfect for tonight
Rehearsal's now done and all tickets are sold
Let the people come in; the show will begin
May I help you, sir? Asked the usher by the door
He was a boy polite, full of dreams, and a little thin
Some might thank him, some will always ignore,
But all will forget the usher by the door
Welcome ma'am; May I help you find your seat?
Running up and down, he's always there
The show begins, he sits at the sides, so discreet
A hundred shows; last night opera now Molière
And when the curtains fall again and the show comes to an end
He is there with a thousand smiles and kind goodbyes
Some might respond, some will always ignore,
But no one knows his name, nor remembers his eyes
No one ever told the story of the usher by the door
