It was brother against brother
It was father against son,
And it was daughter against mother
When this war begun.
It was neighbor against neighbor
It was friend against best friend,
And it was the white collar against labor
When this war did begin.
It was spouse against spouse
The mean and evil against the big hearted,
It was house against house
When this whole war started.
It was city against city
It was the yellow against the tan,
And it was such a shame and pity
When this whole war began.
It was the church against the pastor
It was congregation against congregation,
And it was student against their master
When the war came to our nation.
It was black against white
It was a commander against his crew,
I still remember the lies and the hate and the fight
It was when the Red was against the Blue.
