The Wife Beater's Wife Poem by Francis Duggan

The Wife Beater's Wife

Bruising on her face proof of her terrible life
The young woman who is a wife beater's wife
Her bruises they seem far too many to hide
But with year old twin girls to her man she feels tied.

With a few drinks in he knocks her around
In the heart of the bully the coward to be found
But she will come to the conclusion one day
That enough is enough with him she will not stay.

A pretty looking brunette in her early twenties with time on her side
To make her marriage work she is one who has tried
But in the not distant future to herself she will say
Enough is enough with him she will not stay.

Her husband he beats her as at her he does swear
And sad to say his type have never been rare
But one night he'll come home from the pub to find her and the children gone
That's life as some say and life will go on.
