The Witness Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

One day I 'know' I am going to find
That someone in my life
Who will appreciate me for who I am
And not who they believe I am suppose to be
For them
To be in their lives

Many years ago when I decided I would stop,
Using God
To allow God use me
I realized exactly what I wanted
It became easier for me to see
And although it is 'still' a struggle mentally
I am making attempts to be temptation free
That
Is not easy
Living in a world set up with obstacles
And paths to deceit and defeat

But
One day I 'know' I am going to find
That someone in my life
Who will appreciate me for who I am
And not who they believe I am suppose to be
For them
To be in their lives
And God is going to be The Witness of this gift bestowed
