The Workaholic Shopaholic Sexaholic In Me Takes A Breather From Engineering And Science

The workaholic shopaholic sexaholic in me takes a breather from engineering and science
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I was searching for topics to write or compose blank verse on
When it struck me that apart from death and carnage and destruction,
War has other ugly features and this is portrayed very well in Oliver Stone's Platoon
In which the commander of the platoon leads the rape of a young woman in the enemy territory;

Her cries of help are heard by a fellow soldier who stands by helplessly
Unable to stop the atrocity
However there are colourful aspects to war in the sense
That romance strikes its loving note in enemy territory:

Do recall Barry Levinson's Good Morning Vietnam
Where the hero develops a tendre for a Vietnamese young woman
And this brings me to English war brides in Canada
Who followed their chosen men to the ends of the earth, Canada,
Leaving their loved ones behind
To start a new life in a foreign country:

Queen Elizabeth II hosted all these war brides
In an afternoon tea session at the Buckingham Palace in the summer of 2019
And this thought brings me to Anthony Mingella's The English Patient
In which the story revolves around two different angles
And is handled beautifully
But I must draw your attention, dear reader, to the inspiration for the screenplay,
Michael Ondaatje's book, a brain teaser, as is Arundhati Roys' God of Small things;

Both are written beautifully but it taxes the reader's thinking abilities
For it is a somewhat complex form of blank verse
Of Prose and Poetry, there is none other than William Shakespeare
And of Poetry and Prose, there is none like William Wordsworth;

I try to adapt their styles of composition
But masters of literature are hard to emulate
And I wish all of these literary figures to impart their secrets to me
For I desire to write a powerful piece of prose and poetry or poetry and prose
That will bring me the gates of heaven in terms of fame and fortune;

The workaholic in me would like to make a magnificent contribution
To the world of engineering and science
And hence, I would like to make zeolites and glass
And this involves going down to -35 deg C to separate sodium from salt;

The shopaholic in me would like to make a coffee table doily
Out of bobbin lace and I am going to watch an You Tube video for this
It is going to be ever so pretty
For it is all about laces and workplaces
And for now and for the past many years, my home has been my workplace;

The sexaholic in me would like to see the McMichael Gallery's Group of Seven exhibition
And this brings me the recently unearthed piece of knowledge that
The Haliburton Sculpture Forest near Toronto has simply beautiful sculptures
And I thought that I would make a Rodin's The Thinker-like ceramic sculpture with a graduation hat
For it would be the culmination to every parent's dream to see his or her son/daughter
Graduate with beautiful grades and flying colours and become a success in life
And I think that A.Y. Jackson's The Red Maple symbolises this thought of mine
For it means that there is an aspect in every Canadian which is the quintessence of beating the odds
And making an even spread.
