The World, As Seen By Lazarus Poem by Nika McGuin

The World, As Seen By Lazarus

Rating: 2.8

These chamber walls will me to hush,
yet they continue their perpetual thrumming
in a manner most soporific
as they beckon that I approach
'listen, ' they whisper, 'hear it now? '

The alcove's windows are thrust agape
and outside them the sound grows
shaped by people and places
of which I'll never know
to which I'll never go

Surely, It's the houses I'll never live in
the expensive cars I'll never drive
and the friends I'll never meet

At this I reply:
'Ah yes, this is how the world sounds.
This is all that makes it up; this is all that it is.'

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Nika, this poem has haunted me for several days. I didn't know what to write about it. So I did a Google search on THE LAZARUS PROJECT and read excerpts from the novel and some reviews. I was so impressed I just ordered a copy from Amazon. I don't read a lot of novels - I prefer poetry, drama, non-fiction. But this novel - well, first your poem, then the novel has captured my imagination... And speaking of the imagination, I responded to Ash Flame's request for collaboration. I'd appreciate your input on this because you know him. The last thing Kwaye needs is for someone to tell him HOW HE SHOULD WRITE. And he shouldn't imitate someone else's writing either. My feeling is he should write, write, write - and make his own discoveries. He'll find his own path! But I will certainly offer comments and encouragement. You have already predicted his future success. BTW I correspond with a 19-year-old student in India who has dozens of poems at her site. She just won First Place in the poem reading contest - in one week she read 2,045 poems by members! ! !
