The Worn Out Leather Poem by Kesav Venkat Easwaran

The Worn Out Leather

Rating: 5.0

Dragging, heavy-
legs aren't busy
the way they used to be

Time gets halved
thoughts overtake actions

'Do you have a pair of shoes
feather-light, pushing,
that help to walk swifter,
this present pair, pulling? '

The Shopkeeper advised

'To feel lightweight
better you walk barefoot
shedding on your way
whatever is left of your legs'

To walk barefoot
the thought of which brings pain
stones and thorns, all alike,
the comfort is far better
this worn-out leather provides

A bit of attachment,
still left in the mind,
better to carry it
no matter how much it drags

The present footwear
be it worn-out old,
better to carry on with it
the journey to complete
