There's a nightingale in my heart,
That wants to get out, and sing,
The song of love.
But, my mind is too tough,
That says to the caged bird,
Stay in there,
I'm not going to let you sing,
Out of the cage.
There's a nightingale in my heart,
That wants to get out, and fly singing,
In the beautiful Garden of Manifestation.
But, my wicked nafs is too tough,
And says to it: Stay down!
Do you want to create a mess outside?
I only do one thing,
I sit gazing it and listening to its song,
Through night, when everybody is taking rest.
And in the leisure hours of the day too,
I listen to its song when everybody's is busy,
With his mundane work.
I say to this singing bird,
I know that you're there singing for me,
B your grace I am connected to my lord,
Who has made you sing to me,
In such melodious tunes.
The nightingale speaks back to me:
Listen to my song of love!
If you listen to my song of love,
And follow its meaning, you won't at all die.
And we remain awake together,
It sings, and I listen.
There is a secret pact,
Between me and the nightingale
And it's nice enough to say yes,
When it asks, do you love my song?
