These days our walks are slower
Their age almost mimics mine
Our ailments don't hold us back however
But time does
These days our walks have more meaning
One man and his dogs, in harmony
We notice more as we stroll along
And we take in more of the sights and sounds
These days they take more time
Their senses more sensitive than mine
After all, they always have been that way
I never sniff the grass though
These days we are on the same wavelength
Knowing how far is far enough
I sometimes hold back so they can catch up
And sometimes they do for me
These days I long for more of them
More of the days,
More of the companionship
And sometimes I pray for these days
These days they still make me smile
As we travel the woods and fields
Their habits always amusing
They seek my approval
These days I allow us more time and space
Where we can become as one
A shame I cannot show them how happy they make me
I wish I had a tail to wag
These days they understand me
I do not overestimate how much they do for me
How they complete each day
Even though these days our walks are slower
Footnote:
This is dedicated to Both Marley and Misty, two wonderful dogs and also to my previous dogs K.C and Ben.
Each of them different, but equally loved companions.
a wonderful poem of a man and his best friends still having all be it slow fun, just don't get to excited with them though because the next day you and them will be as stiff as a stale bun? ......................written with much love well done Phil.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
Phil, Great poem. I particularly like the bit about your walks having more meaning nowadays and I am sure your dogs understand how happy they make you. I am reading James Herriot's Dog collection of stories at the moment and his introduction to the book is one of the finest summaries of why we love dogs that I have ever read. Would you like to read my poem 'Dogs' which totally concurs with your sentiments. Thanks. Paul
