Things We Used To Do Poem by Susy Evelyne

Things We Used To Do

Rating: 5.0

Remember the things we used to do?
Like the conker I'd slip into your shoe,
Only to find it back in mine...

Sometimes I'd like to turn back time
And have all the nonchalance of youth,
To those days when in truth
We had nothing more pressing to do
Than hide a conker in a shoe.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Written 2006 - autumn, but of course. There is something irresistible about a shiny new conker on the ground.

A great poem about youth, innocence, and the yearning to get them both back.

Lovely poem. It really made me smile and determined to put a conker in someone's shoe as soon as possible, or do something equally wacky. I'm sure I'll feel young again when I hear the scream...

I like this one. If I could turn back time, I would be back playing conkers. I don't recall anyone ever putting them in shoes though. Is it one of those strange West Country rituals I wonder?

It's simply awesome! Memories die hard, sweet ones never!
