whatever war it is
and for whatever reason
think of the war when it will be over
think of how it will feel
that it is over
that nothing is left to gear up for
In the style of the great emergencies
to telescope life for
to periscope life
from the depths of the sea of it
think of unclouded rest
of the angels singing
of children tossing a ball of many colours
and the colours are chiming bells
and there is no hell
think of flying a kite in the wind and the wind is laughing
the wind carries a thousand flowers
think of coming home for supper
and you are the good kind of tired
and you sit down
and nothing shakes your house
your heart also
is calm
think of what is best
only think
of what is best
