This Life Of Mine Poem by Anil Kumar Panda

This Life Of Mine

Under sky, in simmering darkness,
Silence reigns thick around my place;
Come out I into the streets, for a walk,
Whenever, I find my time runs into a mess.

People walk down, hand in hand,
Or, just alone immersed in thoughts,
They often throw glances at me, and smile,
As I give breaks to my leisurely trots;

I move ahead; I do not count my steps,
And find a place where nobody is there;
I lie upon the soft grasses and close eyes,
Over my head shines a lonely star.

Like to remain sprawled here for long,
Away from din and bustle of the town;
No more wealth and comfort I seek,
A life of peace and tranquillity I do mourn.

To fulfil needs of many a soul,
From the break of dawn to late night;
I have work in dingy cells to earn,
And have to live a life in constant fright

A shade of brown grows thick on head,
Till date I do not have time to know;
Perhaps the moment is approaching,
When it will check for ever my life's flow;

Wish I could remain as moving and shining
As a star, mapping the sky over my head;
I know my wish is just a rainbow in the sun,
Someday, in a cold cell, my body will be laid.
