This Must Not Trip Over A Delicate Apology Poem by Raj Dronamraju

This Must Not Trip Over A Delicate Apology

If you share with me why you're smiling, I can smile too
And I'll leave behind a lovebite your boyfriend might see
If that kind of talk is too big and sucks all the expectation of want out of you
Then I must defuse it with the most precise of tools

Give me a pass to explain a deferred sensitivity
Put off until an unspecified future date
Never mentioned again
Or at least until I'm full of myself once again

Booby traps litter this conversation
So move slowly like a wartime demolitions team
They'll always be at least one casualty with a foot or ego out of place
His last words will be sorry babbling

In order for there to be a next time, the operation must be a success this time
Feelings acted out must at least look real
Feel real when you peel away the layers of a boor
Showing who's hard up - The engineer of excuses
