Though You Bleed Into Me Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Though You Bleed Into Me

When our skin touched, it froze together immediately
Like a tongue to a flagpole mid-winter - a childhood dare
Though we stopped being the same person
A percentage of characteristics become shared

Became impossible to separate - I as column A, you as column B
And a fifth column of those who did not share what we did
Unsuccessful saboteurs executing elaborate operations
That only push them further away from other people

The brute of premature celebration
Wrenches away the impressionable junior partner from a boring home
Establishes that control is the central factor in a relationship
Comes home drunk late in the evening and makes demands

Though I happily join forces with that which seems to dissolve me within itself
Though I've been ingested
I cling as a now smaller part of a once big leaguer to the inside of this new standard
I retain a bare outline of self
What self likes to do, what self likes to eat, what time self likes to go to bed
