This War Poem by Phil Soar

This War

Behind a dark background of death and despair
Somewhere there's a light that is lingering there
But the hatred that's simmering beyond that light
Burns a long lasting yearning, for the quiet of night

If you're living with turmoil, with no sign of peace
And there's no sign that one day that turmoil will cease
When the night turns to day, and it all starts again
No end to the suffering and just so much pain

All around you, the fallen lie still, free from hurt
A face showing nothing, alone in the dirt
While others can't hold back the sorrow and tears
No escape from the war that has been here for years
