Those Who Sit In Judgement Poem by Raymond Farrell

Those Who Sit In Judgement

Rating: 5.0

Those who sit in judgement
In robes
On polished wooden benches
Always claim
To want to know
What is the truth
They feign great interest
Make a show
Of searching through
Dusty old case books
But truth is not there
It has never resided
Where compromise meets compromise
To make new compromises
Built on old compromises
Such decisions are not sacrosanct
Nor are they always truthful
Or decisive enough to be final
These mortals in the dim light
Move forward groping for answers
A never ending quest
For something - I cannot say
Because I have not
Thrown my lot in with them
Some appear sincere
Others are not
But those in robes
Sitting on polished wooden benches
Only give lip service
To wanting to find out the truth
While in effect
They are content
To be drafting
The latest compromise.

There isn't a human alive, including supreme court justices, that doesn't have biases and preconceptions of some sort. Political affiliation, religion etc. Compromise should never be part of establishing or interpreting constitutional law. It is right or it is wrong...Period

I certainly agree with what you have said 100% but the Supreme Courts in the US and Canada have been activist for a long time now and I don't see them being reined in any time soon.
