Threats To The Status Quo Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Threats To The Status Quo

Once the innocence of ignorance,
Becomes protected to defend.
With a giving to it empathy.
All efforts expected to succeed.
In various fields to endeavor with effort,
To achieve and encouraged to do this...
Successfully.
Overtime is thought unnecessary to accomplish.
By many who anticipate being rewarded,
For any attempts they make to reach...
At least the level of mediocrity.

And this level of mediocrity,
As a bar set to reach.
Will then be regarded as much too high.
Much too stressful of a test,
For anyone to pass this challenging task.
Leaving those criticized who choose to rise,
Above and beyond limitations.
Accused of being nonconformists.
Unpatriotic.
And threats to the status quo!
