To Be A Writer In A Dangerous Time Poem by Matthew Holloway

To Be A Writer In A Dangerous Time

In the history of humanity
it has never been more dangerous
to have a thought or opinion
than it is today
the battle cry of keyboards
signal the decaying of civilisation
gone the reasoned and respected debates
a fair understanding discussion
replaced with a growing mantra

'there is only one thought, one opinion
all that contrast it must be ended'

the great philosophers all be dammed
the is now venom and spit in words
that poison and twist to suit
an unpleasant sentence
building a new world unworthy
of the beauty and unity that language
once brought to us

and with this I know
people will hate, despise
and wish to silence me
but I'm still of the old world
I don't care for their hate
