To Be Kept In The Dark Poem by Not Long Left

To Be Kept In The Dark

Time weighs down upon these lids
But the mind orders them to hold
position. defying darkness to
prevent light.

Oh Speckled light what troubles
do you bring with you today?
The clang of the letterbox as
it slams and stamps another bill.
Even the curtains seem reluctant
to finish shift.

In Darkness time is suspended
images move with caution,
I can hide myself in its draping
cloak. unseen, unsure, dissolved.

The television waits in agitated
silence, waiting to hit me with
The morning terror,
Its red eye burns with intensity.
Averting my gaze I watch
as Shadows dance upon the wall.

Childrens screams penetrate
the wall, not yet am I a hermit.
