To Be Perfectly Frank Poem by Denis Martindale

To Be Perfectly Frank

There was a strange fragrance in the room
as Frank pushed open the kitchen door
as he fled from the two thugs sent to kill him.
The kitchen drawer was pulled open
to reveal many knives Frank could use to defend himself,
and Frank selected the sharpest.
When Frank sensed that there wasn't much time to stay and fight,
the only choice left was to escape, so he made his way to the shed.
The house owner had shown him his classic car,
and maybe this was Frank's only chance to stay alive.
The classic car started up for the first time
after being in the old shed for over 20 years,
and Frank was thankful for that as he made his escape,
along the long drive to freedom.
Having hidden the car over a mile away from his house,
Frank searched his home in the dark for any intruders,
then he got his gun and every single bullet he could take with him.
Having locked up and taken an early morning bus out of town,
it was only then that Frank fell asleep until the bus stopped suddenly.
Two police officers boarded the bus
and arrested Frank on a framed murder charge!
To be perfectly frank,
things didn't go too well for Frank from then on.
