To God My Father On The Subject Of Poets, Poetic Language

star we say
trying to elaborate on Your themes
flower we whisper ecstatically
or tree, bending low in the wind
we sway too in our naming, Yours again
like children finding words for the orange
as its trickling down our chins
and feeling we have made such marvelous discoveries
without You where would all language be
and to whom would we repeat
the phrases of felicity
forms without sound or musicality
that could not breathe, like us, without You.
