To Love All Is To Love None. Poem by Rm. Shanmugam Chettiar

To Love All Is To Love None.

To love is to eat,
To hate is to defecate.
Defecation is as much a need.
Not to hate is peril
Choose someone to hate.
All love for all is a myth.

It took guts to write this. In regards to hate, I would say it's only positive function - if any - is to dispel any impurities one may have within - after the manner of Dante. In other words, in hating one's own sins, we can better guard ourselves against sinning. Some may disagree, and say clear thinking is sufficient to do away with error. As for 'loving all', it depends on your understanding of love. Certainly, you can't love all in the way that you love your spouse or mother. No way. But what is love? The perennial, age-old question. Sir, if you have time, please read 'Amsterdam Park', 'Dante and His Three Beatrices' and 'October Panther'.
