Too Old School Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Too Old School

You gave your love to me.
To claim forever.
I had such joy to believe everlasting.
But forever came to leave.
Suddenly.

You gave me hope.
To hold onto.
In stormy weather.
And when that boat stopped floating.
You left me to swim,
To the nearest shore.
Telling me as you swimmed away,
Doing it fast on your back.
"The water is a bit choppy.
But watch out for the sharks.
If you are not familiar with them.
They can be nasty and will attack."

You gave your love to me.
To say forever.

"Hey!
If you make it to shore.
Maybe we can do this again.
I forgot to tell you,
I'm not into storms.
Or shifting winds.
That's too old school for me."
