Une Visite A La Maison Pour Les Viellards. Poem by Michael Walker

Une Visite A La Maison Pour Les Viellards.

Le soleil fait faner les photographes. Apres un temps
les traits sont chaties en des pates les plus faibles;

tous disparus. Entierement disparus.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This like a snapshot of a visit to a rest home for the elderly. Everything is faded and turned white by the sun, including the people's faces. The sun also lightens writing on cards, carefully written by the senders. The old people's faces acquire 'a white anonymity', l.3. I have visited a few rest homes and the poem gives an accurate picture of them.
The dominant factor in the rest home is, of course, the sunlight.
